Street closures planned for UP North Line bridge project

(November 21, 2019) -

Five streets on Chicago’s North Side will experience closures at various times between Nov. 26 and Dec. 23 as contractors continue the work to replace bridges along Metra’s Union Pacific North Line.

The closures at Berteau, Montrose, Sunnyside Lawrence and Winnemac avenues will allow Metra’s contractor, Lisle-based Judlau Contracting Inc., to continue the construction of a new railroad bridge over the roadways. Montrose Avenue will be closed at the UP North Line railroad tracks along Ravenswood Avenue beginning, Tuesday, Nov. 26 through Monday, Dec. 9. East-west automobile traffic will be diverted south along either Damen or Ashland avenues to Irving Park Road during the closure.

Also on Tuesday, Nov. 26, the intersection of Sunnyside and Ravenswood avenues at the railroad tracks will be closed for 24 hours. Drivers are advised to use Wilson Avenue as the east-west detour.

On Friday, Dec. 6, Winnemac Avenue will be closed to traffic for 24 hours at Ravenswood Avenue and the railroad tracks. Drivers are advised to use Foster Avenue as the east-west detour.

Beginning, Monday, Dec. 9 through Friday, Dec. 20, Berteau Avenue will be closed at Ravenswood Avenue and the railroad tracks. Drivers are advised to use Montrose Avenue as the east-west detour.

From Tuesday, Dec. 10 through Monday, Dec. 23, Lawrence Avenue at the Union Pacific North Line railroad tracks and Ravenswood Avenue will be closed to through traffic. Drivers are also advised to use Montrose Avenue as the east-west detour.
